It's Fall / Winterization time

Can you believe that it is already the first of November? Wow what a quick September and October. Here in the Northern Neck you know its fall when all of a sudden it is Oyster Festival weekend!  Yes that means Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner. It also signals the time of year when folks have to think about putting away their boats. Many of us will continue to enjoy the fall season, whether it be cruising, fishing, enjoying the foliage or just taking a leisurely cruise out on the rivers and bay! Rock Fisherman will hopefully have a bountiful season as the water cools and the fish get into a feeding frenzy.

Now is the time to take some preventive measures to insure your investment makes it thru the cold weather months.  Those of you who are finished using your boat now is the time to do the winterization before freezing temperatures occur.  Thats right BEFOR . Both outboards and inboard outboards need to be winterized to prepare them for sitting extended periods of time and in the case of inboard / outboards it is imperative that this be done as they hold water and can freeze and crack. I cannot stress how important this is. In addition to winterizing engines it is also necessary to winterize fresh water systems, heads, wash down pumps, air conditions and heaters. If these components freeze and burst it means big headaches down the road alone with unnecessary expenses. All of this can be avoided.
